Lesson text: Two Dads
Same city, same salary. Ten years later, one is rich and the other is in debt. What’s the difference?
This is the question Robert Kiyosaki answers in his book “Rich Dad Poor Dad.” It came out in nineteen ninety-seven, has sold more than thirty million copies, and has been translated into dozens of languages.
The author says he had two dads.
The first was his own father. Highly educated, he ran the schools of an entire state and worked tirelessly. But all his life, he never had enough money.
The second was his best friend’s father. He never even finished school, yet he built his own business and became one of the richest men in Hawaii.
Both wanted the best for the boy. But on money, they gave completely opposite advice.
Poor dad would say, “I can’t afford it.” Rich dad would ask, “How can I afford it?” The first shuts your thinking down. The second forces your brain to work.
Poor dad said, “Study hard and get a safe, secure job.” Rich dad said, “Study, but also learn how money works.”
The book’s main idea is this: wealth isn’t decided by a big salary or a diploma. It’s decided by how you think about money and by your financial literacy. And they don’t teach that at school.
Many of us grew up with the same advice: “Study hard and get a good job.” It’s not bad advice. But it’s not enough.
We’ll go through the book’s key ideas in ten short parts: each with one idea and a way to use it in your life.
Next time — why the rich don’t work for money.
